Prince Harry has no plans to return as a senior working member of the royal family.
Us Weekly understands that Harry, 41, is happy with his life in California alongside wife Meghan Markle and their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He will not be making a return to the U.K. for a full-time or part-time role, and is just looking for a reconciliation with his family.
The Daily Mail reported on Monday, September 21, that Harry will “never” be allowed back into the royal family fold as a “half-in, half-out” senior member. Us understands that this report is wide of the mark when it comes to the Duke of Sussex’s actual plans.
Reports about Harry’s future within his family come after his recent return home to the U.K. where he met up with his father, King Charles III, for a private tea. This was the first time they were face-to-face in nearly two years.
Harry was pleased to see Charles, 76, during the trip earlier this month. The duke discussed opening that door with Charles during a recent interview with The Guardian.
“The focus really has to be on my dad,” he said at the time, confirming that he is open to bringing Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, to his home country. “This week has definitely brought that closer.”
Harry previously ruled against a trip to the U.K. with his kids after losing his appeal for government-funded security earlier this year. (Harry and Meghan, 43, decided to permanently relocate from the U.K. to the United States in 2020.)
“I think parts of the British press want to believe that I am miserable, but I’m not,” Harry also told The Guardian. “I am very happy with who I am, and I like the life that I live.”

Us Weekly confirmed earlier this month that the meeting between the father and son “was sparked by a handwritten letter from Harry earlier this year to Charles expressing his desire to reconnect.” (Harry also spoke about his desire to reconcile with his family in a bombshell BBC interview this past May.)
A source told Us that there were “hugs and tears” during Harry and Charles’ meeting. The two were “catching up personally about the children and what has been going on with Charles and his health.” (Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in February 2024.)
“They shared a long hug when they first saw each other,” the same insider told Us. “Harry started crying and it was very emotional for both of them. They really missed each other.”
