At last, I have worked out what Prince Harry’s purpose in this world is: to spell out, unmistakably, the dangers of having therapy. Long gone is the cheeky chappy charmer, amusing everyone by pretending to beat Usain Bolt back in 2012, while proudly serving his country. In his place is a world-class whinger, self-pity written all over him, and yet again throwing his father (suffering with cancer, don’t forget) under a train by informing the world he was a rotten parent. He couldn’t be a parent himself, he said, until he’d had therapy to deal with it. And look at him now.
None of this was evident in the old days. Back then, Harry stood up straight in the world, looking out: now he is so obsessed with gazing inwards that he can’t talk about anything else. He didn’t want to be a royal, he said, because it killed his mum: actually, his poor mother died because she and she alone dispensed with her Royal protection officers. Although that might explain why Haz is so desperate to keep his own.
If ever there was a good example as to why you should bolt on the old stiff upper lip, straighten your spine and get on with it, it’s Harry. Where on earth does he think all this wallowing is going to get him?
It’s not going to help his own children, because having a parent who never stops complaining is not going to do a lot for their own mental health. And neither is it a good example to other people, far less fortunate than Harry, who have had their own issues in life and are best advised to press on.
And at the bottom of it all, he must know that he’s betrayed the person who had exactly the same experience as him, but who cannot walk away and will one day have responsibilities Haz couldn’t dream of. His brother.
What good is therapy if it estranges you from your own family? How is Harry going to feel when he’s not invited to William’s Coronation (hopefully a long way away) and neither are his children, prince and princess or no? Therapy, along with his ghastly wife, has ruined Harry. And ask yourself: Does he look happy? Thought so.
