Prince Harry and King Charles have reconnected during a private encounter amid the Duke of Sussex’s uncommon visit to the UK.
Harry touched down in London on Monday for the yearly WellChild Awards, before traveling to Nottingham on Tuesday for an official duty followed by a stop at Imperial College London today.
Following Harry’s rapid-fire itinerary, and after months of conjecture, the distant father and son have come together at a gathering at Clarence House.
Charles reached the Royal residence at 3:45pm after traveling from Balmoral earlier this afternoon, while Harry showed up more than an hour following his father, arriving at 5:25pm.
Prior to departing the White City event, Harry informed the assembled crowds who had come to witness him that he was “running so late”, as he swiftly left for another appointment, reports the Mirror.
The Duke of Sussex entered through the rear entrance of Clarence House for the much-anticipated encounter with his father.
Although Harry convened with his father privately, the Duke of Sussex did not connect with his brother Prince William, or any other Royal family member during his infrequent UK visit.
The healing between Prince Harry and King Charles occurs after the duo have been in conflict with one another for multiple years, with their bond deteriorating after Harry, along with his spouse Meghan Markle, abandoned their Royal responsibilities in 2020 and moved to California. Since then, Harry and Meghan have launched multiple public attacks against the Royal family through their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021, their documentary series on Netflix in 2022, and Prince Harry‘s memoir Spare in 2023.
The numerous allegations hurled at the Firm have only deepened the rift between the Sussexes and the Royal family, with growing speculation that Prince Harry and King Charles were no longer communicating.
In May, Harry spoke to the BBC in a bombshell interview where he revealed his wish to repair relations with his father following his cancer diagnosis, stating he “wasn’t sure how much time” Charles had remaining.
The prince acknowledged, however, that “some members of my family may never forgive me” following his years of public attacks on the Firm.
Reports of a potential reconciliation between Charles and Harry first emerged in July when senior advisors to both sides were spotted meeting in London, just moments from Clarence House.
The rumors of a possible reunion intensified when it emerged that Harry’s UK visit would align with the third anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s passing, and given that Charles had cleared his schedule of international commitments during Harry’s planned return to his homeland.
