Prince Harry reportedly delivered a sharp retort when questioned about why he and Meghan Markle persist in using their Royal titles despite stepping back from senior working Royal duties in 2020.
During a prior interview with Anderson Cooper, the 40-year-old faced scrutiny over the couple’s continued use of their ‘Duke’ and ‘Duchess’ titles.
In the interview, conducted while he was promoting his explosive memoir Spare in early 2023, Harry was challenged on their ongoing use of the titles, to which he shot back, “And what difference would that make?”.
Cooper pressed further: “One of the criticisms that you’ve received is that okay, fine, you want to move to California, you want to step back from the institutional role.
“Why be so public? Why reveal conversations you’ve had with your father or with your brother? You say you tried to do this privately.”
His two children—Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4 — also maintain their places as sixth and seventh in the line of succession.
Harry, set to turn 41 next week, relinquished his military titles after stepping back from his role as a senior working Royal.
In an interview that aired last month, Meghan Markle disclosed her “real name” while discussing the Sussex title.
Meghan stated, “When I got married, I changed my name. It’s a complicated one for people to understand because a last name is not typical in that construct.”
She further explained: “My legal name is Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, but Sussex for us works as our family name. It’s the name that we share with our children, but yes since we’ve been married, that’s what I’ve been called.”
