Prince William and Prince Harry have not seen eye-to-eye in recent years, however, it seems the estranged brothers are “united” when it comes to one strict rule they have for their children.
While William, 43, and Harry, 41, are not currently on speaking terms, their parenting styles appear remarkably similar, particularly regarding social media and cell phone use.
Although William’s kids are somewhat older than Harry‘s, both brothers reportedly aim to shield their children from social media for as long as they can.
Neither has yet provided their kids with cell phones.
This is thought to be a protective measure against the dangers the digital world can present.
Prince William’s position on giving Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, phones was revealed just weeks ago during his appearance with Canadian actor Eugene Levy on The Reluctant Traveller Series.
Speaking to Eugene, William disclosed, “None of our children have any phones, which we’re very strict about.”
Similarly, Harry and Meghan have talked extensively about their commitment to making social media a safer space and their reluctance to expose their children to phones and everything that comes with them.
They also shared that, fortunately, their children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, are too young to have phones and have yet to be introduced to the online world.
This is something Meghan and Harry are believed to be grateful for. At a recent event in New York City, Meghan shared, “Our children, Archie and Lili, are just six and four years old. Can you believe it? Luckily, still too young for social media.”
Fans shared their support for the brothers’ rule, with one X user writing, “100%! My kids did not have any electronic devices or phones or anything of the sort until they were teenagers. They were at least 14 years old. My kids would be outside playing every game.”
Talking about William’s revelation that his children don’t have phones, another X user penned, “That was a surprise: nice, good surprise to know that his kids are without phones. Kids don’t need phones at that age.”
A third then chimed in, adding, “I’m glad. They are too young to be on the internet, so they can’t read the awful things the squad says about their grandparents, aunts, uncles, and other people who don’t agree with them.”
Despite appearing to have similar parenting styles, it’s reported that Harry and William remain estranged.
The brothers’ relationship has reportedly been strained for some time, with Harry’s decision to step away from royal duties in 2020 and his subsequent criticism of the monarchy being cited as contributing factors.
