A sweet exchange between Prince Louis and his grandfather King Charles III has melted hearts following the royal family’s Easter appearance at Windsor. As members of the Firm gathered ahead of the Easter Matins service at St George’s Chapel, lip reading expert Jeremy Freeman revealed that young Louis greeted the King with a simple but heartfelt “Happy Easter” — a moment that prompted an affectionate response.
According to onlookers, the King appeared visibly touched, gently patting his grandson on the cheek in a rare and tender public display of affection. The touching interaction came as the Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales attended the traditional service alongside their children for the first time since Kate’s cancer diagnosis, marking a significant return for the family.
William and Kate were among senior royals joining the King and Queen Camilla for the service, arriving with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis as crowds gathered outside the castle walls.
The Prince of Wales acknowledged well-wishers with a wave as the family made their way into the chapel, with Charlotte dressed in a tan coat while her mother opted for an elegant off-white ensemble, complete with a leafy hat. William and his sons wore coordinated dark blue suits and ties.
Elsewhere, Camilla stood out in a striking red wool dress and coat, paired with a hat and a brooch that once belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
More than a hundred well-wishers gathered in anticipation, some holding flags and banners, with one young royal fan even dressed as a King’s Guard. The atmosphere was celebratory, with cheers of “God save the King” ringing out as Charles and Camilla arrived.
At the end of the service, the Queen was presented with a posey of flowers by a young attendee, while members of the public called out greetings to the royal family — many having travelled from across the UK and beyond to witness the occasion.
The King warmly engaged with the crowd, responding to those who had journeyed from overseas. “I have very happy memories of Hungary years ago,” he remarked to one well-wisher.
Mr Freeman also revealed that, as King Charles left the service, he looked at the crowds and said: “Oh my goodness gracious me, thank you very much…thank you and to you,” before departing with Queen Camilla.
As the Wales family departed, they joined in waving to the crowds, who called out “Happy Easter” — echoing the very words that had sparked one of the day’s most endearing moments between grandfather and grandson.
