The Prince and Princess of Wales appeared to be in high spirits today as they joined King Charles and Queen Camilla, as well as other members of the Royal Family, at a poignant event in London for Queen Elizabeth’s centenary. Princess Catherine looked stunning in lilac, while the heir to the throne looked dapper in dark suit.
The special reception, hosted by the King and Queen in the Marble Hall of Buckingham Palace, commemorated what would have been the late Queen’s 100th birthday today. Guests at the reception included representatives from a selection of Elizabeth’s patronages, including Cancer Research UK, British Red Cross Society, Jockey Club, Royal Kennel Club and the Army Benevolent Fund.
The royals were joined by centenarians celebrating their 100th birthdays on this date.
Charles handed them their centenary cards in person, while a birthday cake was also served.
Earlier in the day, the King and Queen, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester headed to the British Museum to the final models of the national memorial to Elizabeth II.
Among those at the museum ready to show the masterplan to the King and Queen were renowned architect Lord Foster, who won the bid to design the permanent memorial to the King’s late mother.
Other guests included Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, artist Dame Tracey Emin, broadcaster Claudia Winkleman, designer Erdem Moralioglu and presenter Martha Kearney, who are all trustees of the museum.
The memorial is one of three projects honouring the Queen’s legacy, with a new charity The Queen Elizabeth Trust, and a Digital Memorial, which asks for the public’s memories of the monarch at Queenelizabeth.com, also launched today.
The Princess Royal also officially opened the the Queen Elizabeth II Garden in Regent’s Park.
