On “Daily Expresso,” host JJ Anisiobi told royal commentator Sarah Hewson that Prince William may have more of an “appetite to strip” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle of their royal titles than King Charles. The royal couple stepped down as senior working royals in 2020 and embarked on a new journey away from the monarchy, eventually settling in Montecito, California.
Since then, they have focused on their independent ventures while rebuilding their lives. A lot has happened over the years, further deepening the rift between Harry and William. Before the Duke of Sussex‘s recent visit to the U.K., multiple reports suggested that Charles hoped his sons would eventually reconcile.
However, when the reunion finally took place, it was surrounded by high levels of secrecy. Only Markle, Harry, Charles, and Queen Camilla were reportedly present at the meeting. Even the Prince and Princess of Wales did not attend the private reunion.
Amid this, Anisiobi and Hewson discussed Harry and Markle’s return to the U.K. When asked whether Charles has an “appetite” to strip the Sussexes of their titles, Hewson said, “You know, we have always been told it’s not in the King’s power. It takes an Act of Parliament. We’ve seen with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor that there are ways around this.” She added that she does not believe Charles has the appetite to do so. She believes that he still hopes to bring the family closer together.
When the host asked what could happen once William becomes king, Hewson said that would be “a different ballgame.” Anisiobi suggested that the Prince of Wales could choose to remove their titles, questioning whether he could “punish” Harry and Markle in that way. Hewson responded, “He could.” But she also wondered, “Does he actually just need to be the bigger man, rise above it, and get on with the job? Because it’s going to be really tough job for him.”
