The King and Queen, along with Prince William, hosted a reception at Windsor Castle this evening for members of the Diplomatic Corps. This marks the first time since 2001 a reception like this has been held at Windsor Castle, as such functions normally take place at Buckingham Palace in London. The Reception, held by the Sovereign, was hosted to celebrate the presence in London of one of the largest Diplomatic Corps in the world.
Their Majesties got the opportunity to meet representatives of countries accredited to the Court of St. James. This is the first time since 2001 that the annual event has been held at Windsor Castle. Princess Catherine was notably absent from this evening’s function for the second year in a row, as her husband attended solo. Over 900 diplomats were welcomed by the King and Queen in the state rooms at Windsor Castle.
While Princess Catherine missed this function, she is expected to join the senior royals at the German state banquet at Windsor Castle next month.
Entering this evening’s event, King Charles wore a tuxedo, and Camilla was photographed in a floor-length white satin gown. She also wore the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara, which was created in 1919 for Dame Margaret Greville and eventually passed down to Queen Elizabeth II.
Prince William also wore a tuxedo and looked happy to meet guests as he shook hands and held a smile after entering the engagement on his own.
Although William was without his wife tonight, the pair are expected to be the guests of honour at this year’s Royal Variety Performance, which will take place in the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, November 19.
The pair will enjoy entertainment from big names like Jessie J, the cast of Paddington The Musical and British band Madness. The complete show will air on ITV, but a specific date has not yet been announced.
Acclaimed comedian and actor Jason Manford will be this year’s host. He is expected to get some giggles out of William and Catherine.
