Prince William has made a rare comment about his younger brother, Prince Harry, following claims there’s a gowing resentment between them.
The Prince of Wales and the Duke of Sussex have been estranged for more than five years and despite reuniting at a few royal engagements since Harry and his wife Meghan Markle stepped down as senior royals in January 2020, the siblings, who were once extremely close, are not on speaking terms.
Last month, Harry, who now lives in California with Meghan and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, traveled to the UK to attend the WellChild Awards and on that occasion, he also met his father, King Charles.
William wasn’t present at the reunion. While the future king doesn’t usually talk about Harry publicly, he has now mentioned his brother during an appearance on Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series, The Reluctant Traveler.
When asked how he feels about his eldest son, 12-year-old Prince George, becoming king one day, William admitted he and Harry had a difficult upbringing.
William continued, “Not overly radical change, but changes that I think that need to happen.”
The two princes have been at odds for years, with Harry expressing his grievances publicly on a series of occasions, including in his and Meghan’s 2021 Oprah Winfrey interview, in their 2022 Netflix docuseries and in his 2023 memoir Spare.
Despite this, Harry has recently expressed his hopes that he will be able to reconcile with his family – and following his meeting with his father last month, he said Charles will now be his “focus.”
Speaking to The Guardian, Harry said, “The focus really has to be on my dad.”
When asked about wanting to spend more time with his children in Britain, he also added, “Yes, I would. This week has definitely brought that closer.”
Meanwhile, William has revealed that, despite being the heir to the throne, his three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – are his priority.
While giving Eugene a tour of Windsor Castle in The Reluctant Traveler, the entertainer asked William about his favorite ways to unwind.
The future king replied, “Sleep. When you have three small children, sleep is an important part of my life.”
