Prince William is resolved not to replicate the “same mistakes” his parents made, as he raises his own children.
The 43-year-old future king, who has Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, with his wife, Princess Kate, has pledged to “learn from” the consequences his parents’ divorce had on his upbringing.
He remains mindful of how any “drama” his children witness can influence them in their adult years, reports the Mirror UK.
During a conversation with Eugene Levy on his Apple TV+ show The Reluctant Traveler, William said: “You have to have that warmth, that feeling of safety, security, love.”
He explained: “That all has to be there, and that was certainly part of my childhood. My parents got divorced when I was eight, so that lasted a short period of time.”
Charles and Diana divorced in 1996, and according to royal expert Ian Pelham Turner, both had their own separate PR teams and were competing against each other for the limelight.
As William says, he was just a child and witnessing his parents’ arguing was a lot for an adolescent, in which he has no plans or repeating. William talked to Levy about balancing work and family life, that he and Kate try to be with the children when they leave for school and get home from school.
Levy asked William if he has a 9-to-5 schedule with the royal saying, “Not really, no.”
He expanded on his royal routine: “It doesn’t quite work like that, but I do try and stick to school timetables as much as possible. So, most days we’re in and out of school doing pick-ups and drop-offs.”
William has been very adamant that family comes first, which he has spoken about adamantly, which he did again during the sidown with the Canadian actor.
He said: “Getting the balance of work and family life right is really important. Because for me, the most important thing in my life is family, and everything is about the future and about if you don’t start the children off now with a happy, healthy, stable home, I feel you’re setting them up for a bit of a hard time and a fall.
He added: “And so, it’s about making sure that we can look after our families, look after our children, in a way that is best for their future.”

For a lot of families, the best time for family time is around the dinner table, and it’s the same for the Wales family, says William.
Levy asked William about sitting down to dinner together each night with William confirming, that’s exactly what they do.
He said: “Yep, absolutely, yep definitely. So, we sit and chat; it’s really important. None of our children have any phones, which we’re very strict about.”
He also shared some bits and bobs about the children, that Louis loves the trampoline, Charlotte is busy with her netball and ballet, and George is keen about soccer and hockey.
Both William and Kate are athletic, and it seems to have been passed down to their children.
