The holiday season is in full swing, and the royals are joining in the celebrations. This evening, many members of the royal family are taking in some festive music at Kate Middleton’s annual Christmas carol concert, “Together at Christmas.” One notable absence among those in attendance? Princess Beatrice.
Beatrice, along with her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, has attended the annual service every year since Kate instituted it in 2021, making tonight’s non-appearance particularly remarkable.
For the last two years, the couple were also joined by Christopher “Wolfie” Woolf, Edoardo’s son from a previous relationship, who has become a frequent attendee at royal events over the years. Though he has historically been the only one of their children to join in public festivities—Beatrice and Edo also share two daughters; Sienna, who was born in 2021, and Athena, who was born this January—there was some speculation that Sienna at least might make a royal appearance for the evening. Instead, none of Beatrice’s branch of the family turned up; a fact that’s sure to have royal fans curious.
One possible reason for Beatrice choosing not to attend could relate to her father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew. Andrew’s royal titles were removed in recent months following an ongoing series of scandals about the royal’s past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. Beatrice, like her sister Princess Eugenie, retained her hereditary titles even after Andrew’s were stripped and has received public support from her uncle, the king. Nonetheless, the princess—who is not a working royal—has been seen at few public events recently.
Tonight’s carol service celebrates the theme of “love in all its forms – whether it’s love within families, through friendships, across communities, or even through powerful moments of connection with strangers,” according to a release for the event. The statement added that Kate, “wanted to recognize and thank the many people around the country who are acting with love in their communities, contributing to a more cohesive and connected society.”
Along with a star-studded lineup of performances in the Abbey, prior to entering guests will also enjoy music from Future Talent, a music-focused charitable organization co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent, who passed away earlier this year.
