Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie have always been famously close to their mother Sarah Ferguson, however it seems that the cracks in their relationship have started to show over the last few weeks. Just weeks ago, it was revealed that Sarah – previously Duchess of York – had emailed the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein after he was released from prison for child sex offences in 2011.
In this email, Sarah, 66, had apologised for criticising him in a media interview, calling Epstein her “supreme friend”. It has since been claimed by Sarah’s spokesperson that she only sent this email, shortly after telling the media she was to no longer have anything to do with him, as she feared he was going to sue her for defamation.
Whether or not this was the case, the revelation of such an email has damaged Sarah’s reputation for good, and reportedly caused her daughters to be disappointed in her.
Both Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 35, have praised their mother numerous times over the years, and like the rest of us, were probably not aware that such an email had ever been sent.
Princess Beatrice even once made a comment about her mum’s honesty, which may now seem ironic, saying on a previous podcast: “There were never any secrets.”
Appearing on the Lessons From Our Mothers podcast, hosted by Prince Harry’s ex Cressida Bonas and her half-sister Isabella Branson, in May, Beatrice said: “She (Sarah) would sort of channel us to be really open.
“There were never any secrets. That’s really important as well… It forced Eug and I into a communication point, especially over silly childhood fights.”
