Instead, it is the result of mother nature, and time in the sunshine.
This was revealed by the princess, 43, during a candid conversation at the Royal Variety Performance.
When her hair was complimented by actress Su Pollard backstage, Catherine could be heard to say: “It used to be brown, but it’s gone light in the sunshine.”
Although the princess no doubt spent plenty of summer days here in the UK, it is believed her lighter look probably came about after the family’s rumoured private holiday in Greece, just before they spent some time at Balmoral in the summer.
The strong sunshine overseas is likely to have been the biggest explainer for Princess Catherine’s hair changing colour, with the strong sun rays known to naturally lighten hair.
This is believed to be a scientific fact, with Annie Gonzalez, a board-certified dermatologist at Riverchase Dermatology, telling Healthline: “Sun bleaches out the melanin in hair, which is what causes it to become lighter.
“The ultraviolet rays in sunlight oxidise the hair, turning it into a compound that is colourless.”
