Priscilla Presley was seen in public on September 23, coinciding with the release of her new book, ‘Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis.’ Her previous memoir from 1985, ‘Elvis and Me,’ was turned into a movie in 2023 by Sofia Coppola titled ‘Priscilla.’
The octogenarian actress and entrepreneur, once wedded to music icon Elvis Presley, candidly discusses everything from her early years to her marriage to The King and her stormy relationship with their late daughter Lisa Marie, who died two years ago, in her latest book.
As her explosive memoir, which unveils fresh details and answers numerous queries about her life under the limelight, hit bookstores nationwide, Priscilla greeted fans in New York City.
Dressed in a stylish cream skirt suit paired with a sheer black scarf fastened by a black rose at the neck and gold earrings, Priscilla looked elegant. She styled her vibrant red hair slicked back and wore berry-hued lipstick with smoky eye makeup, reports the Mirror US.
Famous for her marriage to Elvis after a courtship that began when she was merely 14 years old, Priscilla’s memoir provides new insights into her story, in her own words.
“Much has been made of the ten-year age gap between us, but it wasn’t unusual in the South. It certainly wasn’t considered pedophilia,” she claims in the book. “Though Elvis and I had started a relationship when I was fourteen, it didn’t become a romantic relationship until I was seventeen. We waited to have sex until he married me at twenty-one. The fact remains, however, that there were ten years between us.”
She continues, “The problem, of course, was that as I grew into adulthood, the power imbalance created by the age gap with Elvis remained. It was difficult for us to have a marriage of equals when Elvis was used to being in charge.”
She reveals more devastating details about their union, including his numerous infidelities. She even chronicles her own affair with her martial arts teacher and her year-long romance with Robert Kardashian, the father of Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, and Rob Kardashian.

Priscilla also opens up about discovering she was expecting Lisa Marie just weeks after their nuptials. “When I’d first learned I was pregnant with Lisa, I’d been stunned,” she writes.
“Elvis and I had only been married a few weeks. Until we married, I had stayed home at Graceland for four years as his girlfriend while Elvis led a glamorous life in Hollywood. Our wedding had meant I could finally come out in the open. I could now travel with Elvis, attend public events, and claim him as my own in the eyes of the world. I was so excited.”
She went on to say, “But when I got pregnant on my wedding night, those dreams fell apart.” She recalls her then-husband suggesting she have an abortion, which she refused.
Priscilla’s new book, ‘Softly, As I Leave You: Life After Elvis,’ contains several intimate details and tidbits about her marriage to Elvis, which lasted from 1967 to 1973. It is now available to purchase in stores and online.
