Tension has reportedly been brewing between Queen Camilla and her daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton.
On May 11, Queen Camilla, 78, returned to London by herself after she and her husband King Charles III finished their four-day visit to the United States on April 30. While Charles continued with a trip to Bermuda, Camilla reportedly felt her nerves had calmed down after her recent trip to America. The Queen appeared to have been previously worried about how the public had perceived her since the King took the throne in September 2022.
With her reported newfound confidence, Camilla is no longer afraid to step up to Prince William’s wife and prove that she is the Royal Family’s leading woman. The Queen and the Princess of Wales reportedly have not seen eye to eye on who should be in the spotlight, or if they can share at all.
An insider claimed that Camilla approached the princess and defiantly said, “We’re not going anywhere.”
“They’ve had this uneasy truce for quite some time,” the insider told OK! Magazine before adding, “But her view is that it’s best to get things out in the open and let Kate know who is boss rather than dance around it. She’s even gone so far as to take Kate aside to tell her she and William need to cool their jets because she and Charles have no plans to step aside.”
The source went on, “She’s very pleased, and it gave her the boost she needed to warn Kate off.”
The Princess of Wales has “no interest in taking Camilla’s place,” the source insisted, and pointed out how “all she wants to do is help them and serve the Crown the best way she can. Even in the face of Camilla’s fears, Kate is continuing to handle things with her trademark grace.”
At the end of the royal visit with her husband, Camilla seemed assured of herself when she was spotted wearing the $40,7000 Tiffany & Co. brooch given to her as a gift by First Lady, Melania Trump, 56.
After Charles and Camilla bid farewell to the first lady and President Donald Trump, 79, the Queen was seen wearing the vintage brooch, featuring a diamond floral design encircled by rubies. However, upon leaving the Trumps, she switched Melania’s gift and preferred to wear a Cartier brooch boasting both the Union Jack and the American flag for her visit to Arlington National Cemetery.
While this may be standard protocol, many observers assumed the swapping of brooches as a deliberate snub to the first lady.
