Queen Camilla had to tone it down when it comes to her language when her husband, the King, ascended to the throne, her son has revealed. Tom Parker Bowles spoke about his mother’s potty mouth during a new radio appearance this week.
The food writer appeared on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Virgin Radio UK on Wednesday. He claimed Camilla had to “revise” her language after becoming Queen.
But she had to tone it down. Mr Evans told Mr Parker Bowles: “You’ve mentioned your mum’s roast chicken. Give us the Queen’s recipe for a roast chicken.”
He replied: “It’s the same one. You get the best chicken you can afford. Yep. ‘Shove a… place, please, place a lemon. Place a lemon actually down its neck cavity.”
He added: “She used to say ‘where the sun don’t shine’, but it’s not actually where the sun doesn’t shine, it’s the neck.”
The duo laughed, with the host remarking on how “she’s changed”.
Camilla’s son then said: “I know. And then lots of butter on it and then shove it in the oven for, for what, 50 minutes, an hour, and that’s it. It’s all in it. It’s so simple. It all depends on the quality of the bird.”
The author has previously spoken about his mother on multiple occasions. Last year, he dismissed rumours about the Queen’s reported drinking and smoking habits.
He told Kate Thornton on the White Wine Question Time podcast: “Contrary to popular sort of stereotype, I’ve never in my whole life seen her even tipsy.
“Never. She doesn’t drink gin, which is this whole thing, and she gave up fags 20 years ago. 30 years ago, maybe.”
Host Kate then went on to talk about the longstanding “myth” about the Queen, saying: “You’re right, that kind of myth persists, doesn’t it? That she likes to knock back a G and T with a cigarette?
Mr Parker Bowles replied: “Exactly. And, you know, and that was the case for a long time. But no, not gin. She likes red wine but is a very moderate and sensible drinker, you know, I mean a glass and a half literally.”
