Meghan Markle has been left “fuming” after Prince Harry’s reunion with King Charles reignited his desire for a return to royal life.
Prince Harry’s trip to the United Kingdom saw him, his wife Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, reunite with King Charles and reconnect with his royal roots.
The occasion was viewed by royal watchers as a possible thawing of years-long tensions and reportedly left Harry feeling “buoyed, very happy and really energised”.
A source close to the Sussexes has claimed the visit also renewed the Duke’s longing for royal life, with Harry reportedly desperate to once again be a part of the institution he walked away from six years ago.
The insider said Harry longs to share his former life with his growing children and wants to see his father, with whom he has shared a complicated relationship since the death of his mother, Princess Diana, through the eyes of his children.
“Harry came away from that visit with a renewed sense of what he misses – seeing his father as a grandfather, watching his children explore a place that is part of their heritage,” the insider said as reported by Radar Online.
“It has made him more determined to find a way back, at least part-time.”
The insider added that Harry does not wish to abandon his newly-built life in the United States, but instead hopes to maintain his royal status while resuming some working engagements in the UK.
“He believes there must be a workable arrangement where he can be present in the UK with proper security while continuing the life he has built in the United States. In his mind, it does not have to be all or nothing.”
Another source claimed Meghan Markle is far less enthusiastic about Harry’s desire to reconnect with the royal fold, saying the couple left that life behind “for a reason”.
“Meghan is far less convinced. From her perspective, they stepped away for very clear reasons, and any return – even a partial one – risks dragging them back into the same pressures and scrutiny they tried to escape,” the source said.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back as working members of the royal family in 2020 but have since been accused by critics of living a quasi-royal lifestyle.
Their recent trip to Australia raised eyebrows over its commercial nature, with many people questioning its purpose.
“There is a quasi-royal vibe with these trips, and it’s confusing,” the insider noted.
“Exploiting their royal status to earn money is making them intolerable for the palace.
“It seems they are trading on old connections in a way that shouldn’t be acceptable because they are no longer working members of the royal family,” the source added.
The Montecito couple’s half-in-half-out lifestyle has reportedly left Prince William less-than-impressed, with a royal source previously telling US Weekly that the future King wants nothing to do with his estranged brother.
“It’s taking steps forward then steps back,” the source said.
“Their media omnipresence is something that has created continued strain. It’s been a barrier to repairing the relationship.
“Just when the flames of controversy die down, they have an uncanny ability to start another one.”
Royal biographer Tom Bower has predicted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s titles could be revised or even stripped when Prince William becomes King.
“When William is king, I think he will strip them of their titles, because it’s hugely damaging to the royal family,” Bower said.
