Thatcher, during her 11 years in office, would visit Balmoral every year, which reportedly wasn’t something she enjoyed very much.
However, it did give her an opportunity to spend quality time with the monarch at her Scottish home, which she loved very much.
This is because the female Prime Minister once saw the late Queen washing up without gloves on at Balmoral.
Author Lady Colin Campbell explained on Secrets of the Royal Kitchens: “Once, when Mrs Thatcher was up at Balmoral, she noticed that the Queen was doing the washing up without gloves.”
She continued: “So Mrs Thatcher went and bought her some rubber gloves and sent them to her, which is rather sweet.”
Although washing up was not a regular activity for the late Queen, it is believed that the monarch was fairly ordinary when on her summer holidays at Balmoral.
It is believed the same could be said for her late husband Prince Philip, who also spent his time away from the royal stage carrying out regular tasks, including cooking a BBQ and having a beer.
