However, it is believed she wasn’t a massive fan of him. This is because Her Majesty once made a four-word comment that was seen to be a dig at Putin.
This was revealed in 2022 by the UK’s then Press Secretary David Blunkett, who had once seen Putin and the late Queen together.
Speaking to the BBC in the weeks after Russia’s invasion into Ukraine, Blunkett said: “The only time I met Vladimir Putin was back in 2003 on an official visit and my then dog barked very loudly. I did apologise to the Queen who was obviously hosting.
“I don’t think I am giving anything away when I said, ‘Sorry your Majesty about the dog barking’.”
She replied with an interesting four-word comment. Blunkett said: “ She said, ‘Dogs have interesting instincts, don’t they?’”
This was believed to be a hint that the dog was not happy to be near Putin, with dogs believed to be good judges of character.
It is also believed that Her Majesty was left waiting for 14 minutes for Putin before an engagement, which Her Majesty would no doubt have not been happy about.
The late Queen herself never aired her personal views on Putin.
