Queen Elizabeth made a controversial choice in her final years, which will carry weight for generations to come.
The beloved British monarch ruled from 1952 until her death in 2022. During this time, she ruled and cared for the people of her country. However, she also was the head of her family — leading her to reportedly make a decision of protection that resulted in effects beyond the walls of her castle.
The legal battle was reportedly funded by the Queen herself. Her choice, according to biographer Robert Hardman, “will go down as a mistake … and one that has outlasted her.”
The author of Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story told People, “Her greatness remains We tend to look at things through the prism of the present — particularly Andrew and Harry. But when you stand back and take in a 70-year reign and a 96-year life, those are important chapters, not the defining elements.
“She came into a man’s world, held that institution together and handed it on in far better shape than people expected.”
A close source to the palace claimed the Queen “effectively sacked him” as he stepped away from the public and his royal duties. Andrew reportedly wasn’t happy to do so, but in November 2019, he stepped into the shadows. Jsut ahead of the choice, he publicly discussed his close friendship with Epstein, who had been found dead in prison months prior.
The insider added, “I don’t think we should underestimate what it would take for a mother to do that. Throughout, she showed that when it came to the demands of family over the role, the role would win out.”
Andrew and Virginia’s settlement included a donation to her charity. He continued to deny the allegations against him, with the settlement including no admission of wrongdoing, and a representative said in a statement, “Prince Andrew has never intended to malign Ms. Giuffre’s character, and he accepts that she has suffered both as an established victim of abuse and as a result of unfair public attacks.”
The statement added, “It is known that Jeffrey Epstein trafficked countless young girls over many years. Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others. He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims.”
