Quincy Jones III Steps in to Oversee Late Father’s Estate

Quincy Jones III is officially taking charge of his late father’s estate.

New court filings obtained by TMZ show that the producer and filmmaker known as QD3 has been named executor of Quincy Jones’ estate after both of the music legend’s earlier choices declined the role.

Quincy Jones first named his uncle, Richard Jones, to oversee his affairs, but Richard ultimately passed. The responsibility then fell to Quincy Jones III and his half-sister, Rashida Jones. Rashida declined, leaving Quincy Jones III as the person now tasked with managing one of entertainment’s most significant legacies.

The estate includes a long list of assets, including Quincy Jones’ Los Angeles mansion, which hit the market last year for $60 million before the asking price was reduced to $40 million. The property has still not been sold.

The latest filing marks a major development in the handling of Quincy Jones’ estate, which has been moving through probate since the legendary producer died in November 2024 at age 91 following a battle with pancreatic cancer. A hearing is scheduled for May 11.

57-year-old QD3 has spent decades building his own career across music, film, television, and tech. Born in London and raised in Sweden by Quincy Jones and model Ulla Andersson, he became a producer and composer before launching QD3 Entertainment, the company behind the influential Beef documentary series that chronicled rivalries and violence in hip-hop.

He also scored films including Menace II Society, Thicker Than Water, and Pootie Tang, and contributed music to shows including The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, In the House, and The PJs.

In later years, he expanded into business, co-founding the wellness company Feel Rich and launching the content platform WeMash with backing from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

Quincy Jones spent more than seven decades shaping music and entertainment, producing classic records for Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Ray Charles while also leaving his mark on film, television, and publishing.
