Bachelorette’s Rachel Lindsay is clearing the air after a recent — and fiery — comment.
“That’s right. The moment I realized I had to pay temporary support, which is way more than whatever you — I mean, I’ve settled,” Lindsay, 41, said on the Monday, July 6, episode of Radio Andy’s SiriusXM’s “Smith Sisters Live,” explaining what she meant when she described the $13,000 spousal support payment she made to ex-husband Bryan Abasolo “temporary leech money.”
“I’m done 1783460646 — but it was the first payment,” she continued. “I’m so mad at the amount of money and I’m like, ‘Nobody’s gonna see this. This is just between us.’”
She continued, “I wasn’t going to make it public unless I put it in the book. And so I thought, how can I say this where it’s not too much but stings just enough. I was gonna change [the memo] every single time I sent it.”
While the payment was meant to serve as a way to support her ex in the wake of their 2024 divorce, Lindsay admitted she was upset about the amount of money she had to fork over – a total of $500,000.
“He’s a f***ing leech,” she added. “So I was like, ‘Temporary leech money.’ And I sent it. Never did I think he would be dumb enough … to [post it online.”
Lindsay alleged that her ex “wanted so badly for people” to hate her for her description of the payment, noting that Abasolo even asked the court to sanction her another $5,000 as punishment for the note.
“Instead, it made him look stupid,” she added with a laugh, adding that her older sister now only refers to Abasolo as “Leech.”
“I’m very proud,” Lindsay said elsewhere in the podcast. “Dumb not getting a prenup, but proud that I was able to pay it off in a year.”
Following their 2019 wedding in Cancun, Mexico, Lindsay and Abasolo announced their separation in December 2023. The following year, he filed for divorce. After reaching a settlement in September 2024, Lindsay reportedly had to pay Abasolo $500,000. In January, she told People that she had “finished paying” the settlement.
The duo met while filming her season 13 of The Bachelorette in 2017. At the end of the season, she gave her final rose to Abasolo and he got down on one knee and proposed.
