Rachel McAdams made sure to thank “the stars up above” while receiving her own on Tuesday.
McAdams, who received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this week, took time to thank the late Diane Keaton, whom she starred alongside with in the 2005 film ‘The Family Stone.’
Sharing that Keaton, “took me under her own wing like I was her own daughter,” the actress noted that, “She taught me that no matter how long you’ve been doing this you’ve got to leave everything you’ve got on the table.”
“Each performance you must muster up as much love as you possible can and then you’ll only feel like a dumb dumb idiot half the time in life,” she added of the actress who died in October. She was 79.
McAdams played Keaton’s daughter in the movie and two stayed close throughout the years. The ‘Mean Girls‘ star presented her with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute in 2017.
In her speech to Keaton during the ceremony, McAdams jokingly recalled that she taught her three things.
“Get an assistant, don’t be too picky with men, and always wear your nicest underwear,” she said.
In 2019, Keaton raved about working with McAdams in an interview with Backstage.
“Watching her was humiliating, because she’s so fast and quick and beautiful and sharp and filled with ideas,” she said. “It’s just, like, you’re going, ‘Wait for me.’ I was sort of sitting there like the person with the tongue hanging out, you know? ‘Oh, yeah, my turn for a line?’ I just couldn’t take my eyes off of her.”

McAdams isn’t Keaton’s only on-screen daughter to have gushed about working with the actress. Months before she died, Mandy Moore also raved about the actress after they played a mother-daughter-duo in ‘Because I Said So’ in 2007.
“I love’Because I Said So,’ it’s this film I did with Diane Keaton,” she said. “I mean its Diane Keaton, she’s just like, on a pedestal to me, it was such a bucket list experience.”
