Rajvir Jawanda death latest update: Punjabi star dies at 35 days after tragic road accident

Rajvir Jawanda’s last rites are set to take place tomorrow, 9 October, in his home village of Pona, near Jagraon in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, his family told The Daily Jagran.

Preparations are reportedly already under way for the ceremony, with large crowds expected to gather to pay their respects.

Jawanda’s family have requested privacy as condolences continue to pour in from across the Punjabi film industry and political circles.

Local authorities in Ludhiana said traffic arrangements would be made near the village to accommodate mourners attending the cremation.

A day after news broke of Rajvir Jawanda’s serious motorcycle crash, Punjabi music icon Diljit Dosanjh stopped mid-performance at his concert in Hong Kong to ask the audience to pray for his friend’s recovery.

In a video shared by his team on social media, Dosanjh is seen addressing the crowd in Punjabi, asking them to pray for the “beautiful singer”.

“Please pray for him. Prayers have a lot of impact. He should get well soon. He should come back to us, back on stage. He is a very beautiful singer, Rajvir Veera,” Dosanjh can be seen saying in the video.

“When you pray for someone with a true heart, he will definitely fulfil your prayers,” he said.

Tributes to Jawanda have poured in from across the political divide in Punjab.

Raghav Chadha, a member of parliament in India’s Rajya Sabha upper house representing Punjab for the Aam Aadmi Party, called the news “truly heartbreaking,” saying Jawanda’s songs “carried the essence of Punjab’s soil and the pride of our youth.”

Member of Parliament Malvinder Singh Kang described Jawanda as a “beloved” voice of Punjab whose passing creates “an irreplaceable void in our cultural and musical heritage”.

Manpreet Singh Badal, former finance minister of Punjab, expressed his sorrow at losing a “gifted artist and beloved voice,” and offered condolences to the family.

Manish Sisodia, former deputy chief minister of Delhi, added: “Gone too soon, but his soulful voice will live on in every heartbeat of Punjab.”

Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann posted a tribute to Jawanda, writing that the “star of the Punjabi music world disappeared forever”.

“Saddened to hear about the demise of renowned Punjabi singer Rajveer Jawanda while undergoing treatment after a horrific road accident near Baddi, Himachal Pradesh. The star of the Punjabi music world disappeared forever,” he posted in Hindi and Punjabi on X, formerly Twitter.

“The voice of Rajveer Jawanda, who ruled the hearts of people through his songs at a young age, will always resonate. May the departed soul rest in peace at his feet and give strength to his family and fans to bear this loss.”

Earlier, when Jawanda was still in hospital, Mann had visited the hospital to see his condition and told reporters that the singer’s health was “better than yesterday” but remained unconscious.

’Punjabi superstar Gippy Grewal, and worked with Jawanda in 2018’s Subedar Joginder Singh, shared a message for his “brother” Rajvir Jawanda.

“This has made my heart go empty,” he wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

“Waking up to this terrible news is unbearable. My brother Rajvir, your last days were so difficult, you showed such strength. You will forever remain in our hearts, memories, and souls.”

Tributes have poured in from across India’s Punjabi film and music circles following the death of singer-actor Rajvir Jawanda, whose songs such as “Sardaari” and “Do Ni Sajna” earned him a devoted following.

Actor Neeru Bajwa wrote on Instagram that it was “very painful to lose such a happy and kind person”, adding that she was “heartbroken” by his death.

Comedian-actor Gurpreet Ghuggi posted a photo with the caption: “Death has won, youth has lost. How will we forget you, little brother?”

Authorities in northern India have said that formal medical examinations are under way following the death of Punjabi singer-actor Rajvir Jawanda.

Police have said it appears Jawanda lost control of his motorcycle after hitting stray cattle on a highway.

He was transferred from a local hospital to Fortis Hospital Mohali in neighbouring Punjab state, where doctors described his condition as “extremely critical” until his death.

Further medical details are expected to be released once official paperwork is completed.

Authorities in northern India’s Himachal Pradesh state have launched a formal investigation into the motorcycle crash that fatally injured Punjabi singer-actor Rajvir Jawanda.

Officers from Baddi police station, around 60 kilometres north of Chandigarh, told The Indian Express that early evidence suggests Jawanda’s motorbike may have struck stray cattle on a semi-rural stretch of road with limited lighting. CCTV footage from nearby shops and highway cameras is being reviewed to establish the sequence of events.

Police added that a mechanical inspection of the bike and a forensic report would follow.

The 35-year-old performer had been travelling alone when the accident occurred.

Doctors at Fortis Hospital in Mohali, a city in northern India’s Punjab state, confirmed that Rajvir Jawanda died early on Wednesday after suffering severe head and spinal injuries from a motorcycle crash on 27 September.

The accident occurred near Baddi, a small industrial town in the neighbouring state of Himachal Pradesh, around 60 kilometres north of Chandigarh.

Hospital officials said Jawanda had been on life support since his admission and that his neurological activity remained “minimal” despite intensive treatment.

Local police in Solan district, which covers the crash site, said initial findings suggest his bike struck stray cattle, causing him to lose control. He was stabilised at a local facility before being transferred to Mohali for specialist neuro-trauma care.
