The Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hanagal Music and Performing Arts University has a new Vice-Chancellor, with K. Ramakrishnaiah of Bangalore University assuming charge on Monday.
Prof. Ramakrishnaiah took over from the outgoing Vice-Chancellor Nagesh V. Bettakote in the presence of university officials at a brief ceremony held on the campus.
Established in 2008, the university has recently shifted its campus from the heart of the city to a spacious new campus in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar in Nadanahalli on the outskirts of Mysuru. The institution was functioning out of a temporary campus in the Lakshmipuram locality in the heart of Mysuru.
The university offers courses in vocal music, instruments, dance, and theatre arts. It is expanding its academic programmes and infrastructure for strengthening music and performing arts education.
