Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie were noticeably absent from today’s celebrations to mark what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday. The late Queen’s granddaughters are known to have shared a close bond with their beloved grandmother, with the sisters having previously spoken openly about their relationship.
Beatrice, 37, and Eugenie, 36, have been dealing with the fallout of their parents’ connection to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, with the sisters reportedly opting to not attend today’s celebrations as they wanted to make sure the day was solely focused on the late monarch. HELLO!’s US Royal News Correspondent, Alexandra Hurtado said of Beatrice and Eugenie’s absence today: “I don’t think it’s a surprise that Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice are missing from events commemorating their grandmother’s 100th birthday.
“The late Queen’s granddaughters have been keeping a relatively low profile in the wake of everything that has transpired with their parents and stepping out now would inevitably draw attention, something, I imagine, they’d want to avoid on a day meant to honour their beloved Grannie.”
Due to their absence, Beatrice and Eugenie were also absent from a picture shared today of the slimmed-down monarchy.
King Charles and Queen Camilla led the royals to begin a day of commemorations marking the emotional yet reflective anniversary.
The picture appeared to show fans what the current monarchy looks like, with King Charles and Queen Camilla proudly standing surrounding by the Prince and Princess of Wales, as well as Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie.
The picture also shows lesser-known royals – the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent and Princess Alexandra – pictured proudly standing alongside the King and Queen.
King Charles is known to be incredibly fond of his nieces, but Eugenie and Beatrice were both absent from the Easter Sunday celebration earlier this month.
It had been reported at the time that Beatrice and Eugenie had separate commitments to mark the annual holiday.
