Princess Diana reportedly didn’t speak to Sarah Ferguson for one year prior to her tragic death. The much-loved member of the Royal Family died on August 31, 1997, just one year after her divorce from the then-Prince Charles was finalised.

Diana, then aged 36, passed away following injuries she sustained from a car crash during a visit to Paris. Writing in her 2011 book Finding Sarah: A Duchess’s Journey to Find Herself, the 66-year-old discussed her past relationship with the late royal.

Sarah appeared to discuss how the the pair were often compared to one another, adding that the comments would get “stuck in Diana’s mind”.

She then revealed that she didn’t speak to Diana for a period of time, sharing that the comparisons were likely the reason behind the decision.

Sharing that their relationship was “periodically strained”, Sarah added: “Sadly, at the end, we hadn’t spoken for a year, though I never knew the reason, except that once Diana got something stuck in her head, it stuck there for a while”.

The royal, whose repuation is currently in tatters over her connection to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, added: “I wrote letters, thinking whatever happened didn’t matter, let’s sort it out. And I knew she’d come back. In fact, the day before she died, she rang a friend of mine and said, ‘Where’s that Red? I want to talk to her’.

“In any sibling relationship, there are ups and downs and peaks and troughs, but we were always steadfast in our friendship.”

Despite revealing that they didn’t speak for a period of time, she added that their “bond was never broken”.

Sarah added: “We never let the sun go down on too many heated discussions. Our bond was never broken.”
