Prince William and Princess Kate this week released a statement concerning the Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor scandal — but this declaration has been described as “wishy washy”
A royal expert has expressed fears “the end of the monarchy” is nigh.
The pundit referred to the Prince and Princess of Wales’ statement concerning the Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor scandal, released on Monday, in the wake of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Amanda Platell described this statement as “wishy washy,” calling on the couple to take a harder stance on Mr Mountbatten-Windsor.
“Lord alive, if Wills and Kate think this anodyne message, which reads like it was written by AI, will do anything to distance themselves from the horrible stench of Uncle Andrew’s decades-long friendship with one of the world’s most prolific convicted sex traffickers and a convicted paedophile, then they’re living in cloud cuckoo land,” the journalist wrote.
“Putting it plainly, if William and Kate value their own survival, they must act in the same spirit — calling Andrew out and distancing themselves from him forever, rather than releasing a wishy-washy statement that says nothing.”

Sharing the Prince William and Princess Kate’s statement on behalf of the couple, a Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “I can confirm The Prince and Princess have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims.”
But Ms Platell, writing for the Daily Mail, said some Brits — especially younger ones — would have hoped for a harsher statement. She added: “William and Kate have a real chance to carve out a path for a modern monarchy. But in a world of social media storms in which Generation Z take a much dimmer view of the Royal Family, nothing other than their complete and unequivocal condemnation of Andrew’s actions will do. Or heaven help us, this will truly be the end of the monarchy.”
William and Kate also faced criticism from other pundits this week following their statement. Controvesial presenter Piers Morgan, who hosts weekly YouTube show Piers Morgan Uncensored, was distinctly unimpressed and took aim at the King and Queen-in-waiting, saying their statement did not go far enough – and suggesting this could be the crisis that ends the monarchy.
Mr Mountbatten-Windsor has vehemently denied all wrongdoing. Other royal experts and pundits have also voiced concerns of the end of the monarch this week. One blasted reports Mr Mountbatten-Windsor, 65, is planning to write a “kiss and tell book,” expressing concern this would be “the final nail in the coffin for the monarchy”.
Former Royal photographer Ian Pelham Turner said: “There are also constant rumours that Andrew is writing a kiss-and-tell book on the whole affair, which could be, if it materialises, the final nail in the coffin for the monarchy.”
