Few country music stars are as beloved as Reba McEntire so when she is hurting, her fans come running to show their support.
And, sadly, McEntire has good reason to hurt lately.
“Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God,” McEntire wrote on X on Tuesday. “His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence. There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together.
“His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family,” she added. “Rest in peace cowboys. Happy trails to you til we meet again.”
Fans were quick to show their support.
“Lord give Reba and her family comfort during this difficult time,” Jeannette Garcia responded. “Cover them in strength and surround them with love. In Jesus name, Amen.”
“May the good lord wrap his arms around you during this difficult time,” the Reba Freaks account on X responded. “We love you (Reba).”
“Reba I am so sorry to hear this news,” Glenda Holland wrote. “My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family!!!”
Blackstock, the ex-husband for singer Kelly Clarkson, died last week after a battle with cancer.
He was 48.
“It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,” his rep said in a statement. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
The news came just a day after Clarkson, who has children River Rose, 11, and Remington Alexander, 8, with Blackstock, postponed her August residency shows in Las Vegas.
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,”she wrote. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
Clarkson was set up for her Studio Sessions residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
Her next performance is now set for Nov. 7.
Rolling Stone reported that Clarkson and her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, married in 2013.
Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in 2020, the outlet reported, and it was finalized two years later.
