Hope you’re not in too much of a hurry to see them, but the good news has dropped: Rush has added Rogers Place in Edmonton to its re-integration Fifty Something tour — Dec. 10, 2026!
“It’s been over 10 years since Alex and I have performed the music of Rush alongside our fallen bandmate and friend Neil,” says Geddy Lee of the tour and 17 additional dates, of which Edmonton is the last booked so far. “A lifetime’s worth of songs that we had put our cumulative hearts and souls into writing, recording and playing together onstage.
“And so, after all that has gone down since that last show,” says Lee, “Alex and I have done some serious soul searching and come to the decision that we fucking miss it, and that it’s time for a celebration of 50-something years of Rush music.”
Powerhouse technical drummer Anika Nilles will be stepping up into what Lee calls “that near impossible role,” the German composer having previously toured with Jeff Beck, as well as putting our four studio albums of her own.
Longtime drummer Peart — aka the Professor and the band’s primary lyricist — started describing himself as a “retired drummer” in 2015, dying of brain cancer Jan. 7, 2020 to a flood of tributes from every corner of the entire music planet.
“Before we hit the stage,” Lee adds, “we also hope to add another musician or two to expand our sound a wee bit and free up Alex and I, in order to show off some of our new fancy dance steps.”
The Toronto rock band carved out a unique place in musical history with its thoughtful, proggy, story-driven lyrics and starting with Fly By Night in ’75, an unmistakeable, inventive sound you could identify from space.
Tom Sawyer, Closer to the Heart, The Trees, Working Man, Big Money, Xanadu and my personal favourite Subdivisions, are all weirdly different rockers and it’ll be exciting to see what the band pulls out for the show in a year plus from a selection of 35 songs.
General tickets for the Edmonton show where plenty a classic T will be worn starts at noon on Halloween Friday at rush.com, with artist pre-sales noon Monday, Oct. 27, signup at liveme.sc/rush by 11:59 p.m. Oct. 23 required for the latter only.
It’s been long enough. Time to mould a new reality that’s closer to the heart, eh?
