After nearly three decades, the DC post-hardcore trio Regulator Watts have returned. Former Hoover frontman Alex Dunham formed Regulator Watts with bassist Cret Wilson and drummer Areif Sless-Kitain in 1996, and they released the lurching, mathy 1997 album The Aesthetics Of No-Drag before breaking up a year later. Last year, though, the band released an odds-and-ends compilation, and Dunham and Sless-Kitain went on Vish Khanna’s Kreative Kontrol podcast to announce that they were working on new music. Now, we get to hear their first new song in 29 years.

This summer, Regulator Watts will release their new EP kWh, which they recorded with Converge guitarist Kurt Ballou at Steve Albini’s Chicago studio Electrical Audio. On opening track “It’s Gonna Happen,” they sound like they’re fully locked-in once again. It’s a sharp, passionate riff-beast that constantly changes grooves without losing its forward momentum. Below, check out “It’s Gonna Happen” and the kWh tracklist.

TRACKLIST:
01 “It’s Gonna Happen”
02 “Scotch Blue”
03 “kilowatt-hours”
04 “Lefty’s Deceiver”
05 “Ode To Dorothy”

The kWh EP is out 8/14 on Solid Brass.
