A resurfaced, decades-old clip shows an interaction between Sean “Diddy” Combs and actress Daveigh Chase when she was 12 years old.
Footage from the 2003 MTV Movie Awards shows Combs, then 33, approaching a preteen Chase backstage with a drink in his hand.
“You coming to the after-party tonight?” he said in the clip. Chase nods yes, at which point Combs laughs and says, “Yeah!”
Chase is best remembered for voicing Lilo in Disney’s 2002 animated film Lilo & Stitch and for providing the English-dubbed lead voice in Studio Ghibli’s Oscar-winning Spirited Away. She began acting at age 4 and also appeared in Donnie Darko.
Chase died on June 16 at age 35 from complications of bacterial meningitis that progressed into bloodstream infections, sepsis, and multiple organ failure. At the time of her hospitalization, she had been homeless and severely malnourished on Skid Row in Los Angeles, having previously spent months in an RV with her boyfriend.
Her longtime manager, John Ryan Jr., described Chase to BBC after her death.
“She was the greatest. She loved cats. She worked with cat rescues with us. She was very to herself,” he said. “She was not very Hollywood. She’d rather eat at Bob’s Big Boy and go home with the cats. She loved acting but wasn’t into the fame scene.”
Ryan also said that Chase’s addiction to heroin and fentanyl had left her unable to access what he described as millions of dollars in unclaimed Disney acting residuals, with SAG-AFTRA records repeatedly showing unpaid funds in her name. Chase’s stepsister, Gaia Brown, and Ryan had hired a private investigator to find her and arrange rehabilitation, but contact was lost.
Combs was convicted in July 2025 on two felony counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and sentenced to 50 months in prison. He is currently housed at FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey, with a projected release date of Feb. 23, 2028.
His legal team has filed appeals seeking to overturn both the conviction and the sentence.
