Richard Gere revealed he’s been watching Euphoria — but hasn’t yet caught up to the penultimate episode in which his son, Homer Gere, has a NSFW scene with Sydney Sweeney.
“I still need to see his second episode,” Richard, 76, revealed to People on Tuesday, June 9, days after the season 3 finale aired.
In the episode 7 scene, Sweeney’s character, Cassie Howard, had sex with Homer’s Dylan Reid, an up-and-coming TV star, as part of a plan to regain her social media followers after she deleted her OnlyFans account.
Richard said that after his son’s appearance on Sam Levinson’s hit show, “[Homer] has this big thing coming up with Ryan Murphy, and he just finished shooting a film with Oliver Stone.” The Pretty Woman star joked, “So I can retire now. I’m passing the torch.” (Richard shares Homer, 26, with ex-wife Carey Lowell.)
As for Homer following in his acting footsteps, Richard couldn’t be more “proud of him.”
“One, he’s really good. He really kind of preternaturally knows what he’s doing. But he’s also handling it really well,” Richard gushed. “He’s a good kid. He’s a really good young man who kind of gets it, and this is not an easy job. Not everyone can function within it. So I think he can stay.”
Richard admitted he’s not sure if Homer sees himself as a lifetime actor or if it’s just a temporary hobby he’s exploring.
“I don’t think he’s got to make a life choice to commit to this if he’s doing this now,” Richard said. “He’s good at it and he’s having fun, but he can become a rock climber if he wants to do that.”
Richard previously praised Homer’s career, telling E! News on Monday, June 8, “He was an artist. He had a degree in visual arts and his second was in psychology. He was in a different headframe altogether, and this started as a fluke with him of making student films and writing them, directing them, acting in them and just fooling around, and he was having fun.”
He added, “One thing led to another and then he’s doing Euphoria and then he’s doing another show. He’s doing a long-format show, which will probably be two to three years of his life with Ryan Murphy.”
Ahead of starring on the big screen, Homer graduated from Brown University in May 2024. He’s now set to star as Robert Mallory alongside Kaia Gerber, Hayes Warner, Igby Rigney and more in Murphy’s upcoming drama, The Shards.
