Former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora responded to accusations of ruining the band. He shared his thoughts in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Sambora began by thanking his supporters and addressing the negative comments circulating online. He made clear that the criticism did not reflect his own views.
“Hey guys, I wanna thank you for your support,” Sambora said. “The stuff people that are negatively commenting on are not coming from me. The impact, hard work, and songs that moved the planet, I couldn’t have more gratitude for the opportunity to be a part of. Why would I spend 32 years in this band and that beat the odds, and got pretty big and blaspheme the situation. I’m proud of it. And thankful for the opportunity to entertain you, and the songs made you happy. Thank you again.”
Following his initial statement, a fan pushed back and demanded that Sambora be honest about his role in the problems surrounding his departure. Sambora then responded directly to the challenge.
“32 years is a long time,” he continued. “How on earth could you know the inside, and then the business. My daughter needed me. My decision wasn’t based on substance. No body needs to know family stuff. No band wants or needs to divulge that. We all have the right of freedom of speech. You’re obviously a fan, maybe not of mine, but when I was in the band I bet you were… be honest. Tell the truth.”
Sambora’s comments reignite a long-running conversation about one of rock’s most debated departures. It is a conversation that has never been fully resolved in the public eye.
Sambora officially left Bon Jovi in 2013, bringing an end to a 32-year run as the band’s lead guitarist. His exit came mid-tour and drew immediate scrutiny from fans and the music press alike. He maintained that his daughter needed him and that his decision was not substance-related. The circumstances surrounding the split remained a subject of speculation for years.
