A home in Ridgewood was converted into a movie set for an upcoming Netflix film, according to Carol Bialkowski, director of communications and special projects for the village of Ridgewood. As of Aug. 13, signage, lighting fixtures and other equipment could be seen outside of the Meadowbrook Avenue home.
Although she could not disclose the name of the film, Bialkowski said in an emailed statement that it is a Netflix movie for which filming has taken place in several locations around Ridgewood, including at Benjamin Franklin Middle School.
This comes just two weeks after Netflix’s “Don’t Say Good Luck” filmed at the middle school.
The movie, starring Adam Sandler’s daughter Sunny, follows a teen who gets cast as the lead in her high school play. However, she is suddenly living with even more drama at home than she is on the stage, according to Deadline. The film will also feature Steve Buscemi, Melanie Lynskey and Max Greenfield, among others.
Though filming was expected at the Meadowbrook Avenue home, it did not end up taking place as of Aug. 13, Bialkowski said in an email, adding that the scene may have been cut.
An official release date for “Don’t Say Good Luck” has not been announced.
Filmmaking in North Jersey
New Jersey has been a mecca for filmmaking as of late with the Murphy administration offering tax breaks to film production headed to the state. Previously, $758 million in tax incentives was granted for the film and television industry.
On July 1, for example, a Netflix movie starring Natalie Portman and Mark Ruffalo was filmed in Verona. Robert De Niro was spotted in Paterson in May for the filming of Netflix’s “The Whisper Man.”
Filming for Sandler’s most recent movie, “Happy Gilmore 2,” took place across several North Jersey counties in 2024 including Bergen, Essex, Passaic, Somerset and Monmouth.
