Robbie Williams has brought The Word back from the dead for the music video for his new single, ‘Pretty Face’.
The Word was a cultural phenomenon during the 1990s, welcoming left-field musical guests to a prime-time slot on Channel 4 on Friday evenings between 1990 and 1995.
Sadly, Williams never had the opportunity to perform on The Word when the programme was on air, but he has now made up for that with the video for ‘Pretty Face’, which has seen him travel back in time to the 1990s.
He says of the video: “This is my ‘DeLorean Moment’ back to 1995 .. The Word was the late-night gateway to so many – Nirvana, Oasis, Happy Mondays… If BRITPOP is the album I would have made, then THIS would have been the TV show…. now a (virtual) reality.”
The new release is the fourth single to be released from his new record Britpop, following ‘Rocket’, ‘Spies’ and ‘Human’. The LP, set for release on February 6th, 2026, boasts collaborations with Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes and Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi.
It was initially set for release on October 3rd. When he performed an intimate show at Dingwalls in London, which was supposed to be a launch party for Britpop, Williams honestly explained why he pushed it back, telling fans, “We’re all pretending [the scheduling change] is not about Taylor Swift, but it fucking is, you can’t compete with that.”
He continued, “I was worried about making you all wait for the record. But then I was like, ‘Fuck it’. I’m sorry, but I’m fucking being selfish. How many times in your life do you get to have the most number one albums the UK has fucking ever had.”
Williams is currently tied with The Beatles on 15 number one albums in the UK, and Britpop reaching the chart summit would deliver him the huge chart record.
In February, he will play intimate shows in Liverpool, Wolverhampton, Glasgow and London to celebrate the album release.
