ROCHESTER — The Rochester Royals kicked their season off with a bang, downing the Owatonna Aces in a 17-0 rout on Friday night at home at Mayo Field.
The Royals tallied 16 hits while limiting Owatonna to just one. The third inning was Rochester’s best, scoring 10 runs.
Thane Meiners went 3-for-3 for Rochester with two runs scored and one RBI. Garrett Konz finished 3-for-4 in the win, driving in two runs and scoring three. Konz also added two doubles.
Harrison Esau allowed Owatonna’s lone hit while scattering two walks and seven strikeouts across four innings pitched for Rochester.
Johnny White had one hit for the Aces.
Next, the Royals travel to Austin to face the Greyhounds at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
