Welcome to the latest episode of the Roundtable Rundown Show. In this week’s podcast, host Joey Mistretta discusses a number of topics, including the Kansas City Royals‘ chances of winning the American League Central, Tarik Skubal’s World Baseball Classic decision and more.
The AL Central features a number of talented teams. The Cleveland Guardians won the division last year, while the Detroit Tigers finished in second place. Both ball clubs will likely find themselves in contention once again in 2026.

The Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox are unlikely to contend, but the Royals will still have legitimate competition given the presences of the Guardians and Tigers. However, Kansas City reached the postseason in 2024. Although they failed to achieve the feat last year, the Royals have a talented squad.
It would not be surprising to see them at least clinch a 2026 Wild Card spot. The Royals could certainly end up winning the division as well.
Skubal was expected to only make one start in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Reports are now suggesting that Skubal is considering making another outing following his appearance on Saturday.

It still remains to be seen if Skubal will pitch again in the WBC. Having Skubal available for another appearance would obviously give Team USA a crucial boost as they hope to win the tournament after losing to Team Japan in 2023.
The Rangers signed McCutchen after the outfielder did not return to the Pittsburgh Pirates. It seemed as if McCutchen was destined to retire with the Pirates, but a deal never came to fruition in free agency this past offseason.
For the Rangers, McCutchen gives the team a respected veteran presence on the team. It projects to be a good move for the ball club.

Trout has not looked like the same player he once was in recent years due to injuries and underperformance. With that being said, it is always risky to count a true superstar out. There was a time when Trout was considered to be the best player in the game. While he may not play at an MVP-caliber level again in 2026, Trout could still certainly record All-Star numbers.
