A royal commentator is facing intense backlash after appearing to defend former Prince Andrew despite his long-running controversies.

British journalist Judith Woods has garnered the ire of many online commenters after she made a case for Andrew’s mental health and revealed that some members of the royal family have continued to quietly check in on him.

She suggested that, despite the gravity of the situation, they are simply doing what “any family does during times of turbulence and tribulation.”

At the same time, Woods maintained that the former Duke of York should be held accountable if found guilty of the charges against him. However, reports indicate the once-prominent royal has been brought low, with insiders describing him as a shadow of his former self.

Woods’ defense of Andrew has not gone down well with many online, as critics continue to flood the internet with sharp reactions.

Some have pushed against the tone of the backlash itself, as one user commenting on the article wrote: “Wasting your time and compassion, Judith. People love to behave like guillotine-knitters, as evidenced by the comments below.”

Another added, “His mental health is low because of people like you hounding him. He has been found guilty of nothing. All we have is the word of one woman, nothing else, and for that, he has lost everything.”

Some others even expressed support for the family members maintaining contact with the embattled royal, backing the reported decision by Princess Anne and Prince Edward to check in on him.

These latest developments have come as King Charles and Prince William are said to be taking an increasingly hardline stance toward Andrew, with fresh reports suggesting the future king is determined to see his uncle fully cut off from royal life.

According to insiders, William’s frustration dates back to Andrew’s widely criticized 2019 interview, in which he attempted to defend his relationship with Epstein.

Royal author Russell Myers told Us Weekly that the Prince of Wales had viewed the interview as a turning point.

“William was absolutely adamant after seeing that BBC ‘Newsnight’ interview with his uncle and the disastrous explanations that he gave for being friends with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein,” Myers said. “Refusing to apologize for his relationship and refusing to acknowledge the actual trauma of Epstein victims was an absolute red line for William.”
