Marius Borg Høiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, has been sentenced to four years’ imprisonment. On June 15, the Oslo district court handed down its ruling, in which the 29-year-old was found guilty of several offences, including two counts of rape.
Marius Borg Høiby will be paying the victim, Nora Haukland, and three more women financial compensation for his crimes
Høiby, who entered the royal family after his mother, Mette-Marit, married Haakon in 2001, had been charged with sexually assaulting four women between 2018 and 2024. As per The Guardian, the women were allegedly asleep or otherwise heavily incapacitated in each case.
His former girlfriend, Nora Haukland, was one of the victims and the only one whose identity was made public, reports The Week. He was convicted of assaulting her and inflicting serious injuries on another.
Høiby was charged with nearly 40 offences, including four counts of rape, assault, multiple violations of restraining orders, and drug- and driving-related offences. However, one charge of violating a restraining order was dismissed. As reported by People, Høiby initially faced 32 charges, including rape and sexual abuse, on August 18, 2025, one year after his arrest over the alleged assault of a 20-year-old woman.
On June 15, following a six-week trial that ended in March, the court found him guilty on two rape charges. In addition, the court ordered him to compensate Haukland and three other women. He was also issued a two-year restraining order involving one of the victims. He has the right to appeal the verdict.
Høiby’s stepfather, Crown Prince Haakon, wrote in a January 28 statement, “Our thoughts are with everyone who is affected by this case. It has an impact on the individuals, their families and all those who care about them. We understand that this is a difficult time for many of you, and we sympathise.” Adding, “Marius Borg Høiby is not a member of the Royal House of Norway and is therefore autonomous.”
The decision from the court also comes as his mother, Mette-Marit, has issued an apology for her contact with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein following his 2008 conviction. Between 2011 and 2014, she exchanged hundreds of emails with the disgraced Epstein and also stayed at his Florida residence in his absence, according to the BBC. She said in March, “I still didn’t know anything about all the abuse. But I had understood enough that I thought he was a bad guy whom people shouldn’t have contact with.”
