A royal fan was stunned when she stumbled across an official portrait of the Prince and Princess of Wales inside Peterborough Cathedral. The first official joint portrait of Prince William and Princess Catherine painted by Jamie Coreth, was proudly displayed inside the Cathedral, much to her astonishment.
Taking to social media, and uploading a video of her discovery, Dr Estelle Paranque wrote: “I didn’t expect to find this inside Peterborough Cathedral.” She added: “Now it’s here…so it can be seen by far more people, in a setting that adds its own quiet sense of continuity: a modern image placed inside a medieval space.”
Social media users commented on how beautiful the portrait is. One wrote: “What a BEAUTIFUL portrait of the Prince and Princess of Wales!”
Another said: “I saw it on display at the NPG in London in 2024. Gorgeous portrait of both of them. Just stunning to see it in person!”
A third wrote: “I saw it last weekend and I thought it was absolutely stunning! And what an amazing place for it to be on display.”
Of the painting and the process, artist Jamie Coreth said: “It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture. I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.
“As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives.
“The piece was commissioned as a gift for the people of Cambridgeshire, and I hope they will enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed creating it.”
