Queen Camilla left royal fans in stitches after she appeared to have an accident with her umbrella during her trip to Northern Ireland. The King and Queen travelled to Northern Ireland on Tuesday for a visit celebrating the country’s culture, music and creativity.
Earlier in the day, they toured parts of Belfast’s Titanic Quarter, a major tourist attraction area in the city and met organisers and performers who will entertain thousands of people this summer. They visited an open-air event showcasing the type of acts on display when Belfast hosts the all-Ireland Fleadh – the world’s largest festival of traditional Irish music, song and dance – for the first time in August.
As the couple arrived at the Thompson Dock, the Queen pulled out her umbrella to shield herself from the rain.
But in a video shared on social media, the royal appeared to have trouble holding her umbrella while shaking hands with the dignitaries who welcomed them to the city, with her accessory briefly brushing the woman next to her before she got it back in place.
Royal fans were quick to notice the incident and took to social media to comment on it.
One user wrote on X: “Oops, the queen nearly took someone out with her umbrella.”
Another one said: “If you imagine a ‘Boing!!’ sound effect it’s really funny. [laughing face emoji]”?
A third person commented: “She is having trouble with it isn’t she? But at least she is carrying it herself. I hate when celebrities are too lazy to even carry it themselves.”
A fourth one added: “It happens to everyone [laughing face emoji].”
Later, Camilla enjoyed an encounter with an affectionate trainee therapy dog as she visited a primary school known for having the most diverse pupil community.
Tilly, a six-year-old Poochon, showed no intention of standing on ceremony as she enthusiastically licked Camilla’s hand during the Queen’s tour of Fane Street Primary School in south Belfast.
Forty-five countries are represented and 47 different languages are spoken among its 285 pupils.
The school ran a competition for children to write to the Queen asking her to pay them a visit, and on Tuesday afternoon, she took them up on the offer.
