Buckingham Palace has reportedly taken a swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s recent Australian tour, with a source describing the trip as “pretty outrageous behaviour” and “royal-tour choreography.”
Woman and Home royal editor Emily Andrews reproted the source’s remarks, who branded the visit shocking “in a realm where the King is Head of State, to drum up all this publicity for their commercial endeavours.”
The source added: “The whole point about being a working royal is that they do it for others and for public service, not their bank balance.”
The visit included commercial engagements alongside events shining a light on charitable organisations and notable causes.
But as Marie Claire journalist Christine Ross noted, the palace reaction “begs the question: does it matter what they think, if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren’t working royals anymore?”

Another attendee pushed back on the criticism Meghan faces. “She’s just a woman who is so polarising it’s ridiculous. She’s not caused famine and wars and, you know, murders and you just go, wow, that’s a lot on someone. I just came away feeling like she’s just human.”

Writing in Marie Claire, Ross argued that palace opinion ultimately carried little weight given the couple’s non-working royal status. “At the end of the day, the people who are attending and organizing these paid events hold the opinions that matter,” she wrote.
“It seems that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are trying to do good for others and for public service, while keeping the bank balance in check at the same time.”
