It’s no secret that Prince Andrew is somewhat of a royal pariah these days, following his disastrous Newsnight interview and ill-fated friendship with convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein – and it seems as though he was attempting to regain some favour this week at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral.
At the event, which was widely covered by cameras, Andrew (who is rarely seen at royal occasions these days) took the opportunity to try and coax Prince William into a conversation. But, according to one lip reader, the whole exchange was pretty frosty and the future King was far from feeling it.
In fact, it was later claimed that he felt “ambushed” by the whole experience.
Everyone’s clicking on…
Speaking to the Daily Mail about it, lip reader Jacqui Press said the interaction between uncle and nephew seemed very strained and surface level.
“Aren’t we lucky with the weather today” and “It was a beautiful service” were about all that the pair could manage, apparently.
Elsewhere, Prince Andrew spoke with his sister, Princess Anne – and again, it was pretty dry. The lip reader claims Anne told Andrew “let’s walk this way” and Andrew responded with, “Shall [we] go that way and we can leave there?”
Ouch.
