Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie may be members of the Royal Family, but they have kept an extremely low profile over recent months. While the princesses themselves have not done anything wrong, scandals surrounding their parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, have cast a shadow over the monarchy.
This is because the divorced couple both appeared in the Epstein files, showing how close they were with the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, even after he was first arrested for child sex offences. While appearing in the Epstein files does not automatically indicate wrongdoing, the scandals have resulted in public criticism of Andrew and Sarah. This has become progressively worse over the last few weeks as Andrew, who has always denied wrongdoing and accusations against him, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He has since been released under investigation.
While Beatrice and Eugenie have had to watch the fallout from their parents’ scandals in the eyes of the public, they have not commented on the matter.
This is reportedly the best approach they could take, according to brand and culture expert Nick Ede, who exclusively told the Express that the princesses are doing all the right things in the wake of the scandals.
Talking to the Express, Mr Ede said: “Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are in a uniquely difficult position because of the controversy surrounding their parents, which isn’t something they can control, but it inevitably shapes public perception of them.
“In situations like this, the most effective strategy for them is to be quiet and carry on their business as usual. Releasing a statement would likely do more harm than good.
“Statements can unintentionally keep a story alive and force them into taking a public stance on family issues that are deeply personal.
