Royals’ Erceg placed on IL with shoulder injury

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Royals reliever Lucas Erceg will end the regular season on the injured list.

Kansas City announced Friday that Erceg was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder impingement syndrome.

Reliever Steven Cruz was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move.

With the Royals currently a game below .500 and with FanGraphs giving them a 0.1% chance to make the playoffs, the injury likely ends Erceg’s season. The 30-year-old had an 8-4 record and 2.64 ERA in 61 appearances with the Royals.

The Royals dropped back to one game under .500 with a series finale loss to the Mariners.

His second season with Kansas City included two IL stints, one of which came early in the season due to back spasms.

Cruz will join the Royals as they open their home finale series Friday night against the Toronto Blue Jays.
