KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City is turning blue once again with Royals baseball coming back to Kauffman Stadium on Monday.
As the team gets ready to take the field for their home opener, fans are gearing up for the next six months.

“Most people are here for a jersey; I think they’re going to kind of show out at the opening day,” Rally House Plaza East Assistant Manager Hayden Pirani said. “Most people are in for jerseys, but we’ve got, you know, for people looking to spend a little less, we got jersey tees, we got hats, we’ve got all sorts of stuff coming out.”
Pirani said at least 80% of their sales on Sunday have been Royals merch. For Shumecia Charles, baseball season is the perfect opportunity to get a new outfit.
“For me, the Royals mean good weather and short sleeves,” Charles said. “We’re going to the game next week, so I need a cute shirt and I’m actually going to cut the sleeves off to wear to the game.”

Buying new Royals gear for the season has turned into somewhat of a superstitious tradition for Phil Park. From rally hat to rally mantis, he’s hopeful his purchase will lead the way to a Blue October.

“I like to try to get a new piece of gear every year just to see if that’s going to be the magic trick,” Park said. “Because I’m not a superstitious person until it comes to sports and baseball. So, you got to get that new piece of gear to see if it rallies them along for the season, you know.”
With the Royals taking the field at 3:10 p.m. for their home opener, Rally House will be opening two hours early, at 8:00 a.m., to make sure Royals fans have the opportunity to get all the merch they need ahead of the game.
