Royals legend George Brett to receive Louisville Slugger Living Legend Award

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KCTV) – Kansas City Royals legend George Brett will be honored later this year by one of the most influential brands in baseball.

On Thursday, Louisville Slugger announced that the former Royals third baseman and Hall of Famer will be the recipient of the Living Legend Award this year.

Brett, who is Kansas City’s all-time leader in hits, RBI, and home runs, and who went into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1999, will be given the award on Nov. 13 during a ceremony in Louisville.

“I’m incredibly honored to be named this year’s Living Legend,” Brett said. “Louisville Slugger bats were a part of my career from the very beginning, and it means a lot to be recognized by a place that’s so deeply tied to baseball’s history.”

The Living Legend Award began in 2007 and has been awarded to a list of baseball’s greats that includes Hank Aaron, Ozzie Smith, Cal Ripken Jr., Tony Gwynn, Ken Griffey Jr. and more.

To commemorate his honor, Louisville Slugger said it will release a special collector’s bat, a replica of the T85 model the Royals legend swung during the majority of his 21-year career. The bat, which will be autographed by Brett, will be priced at $499.99 and include two tickets to the award event.
