Aaron Nola shut the Royals down through the first three innings, 9 up, 9 down. On the other hand, Noah Cameron had surrendered a pair of solo homers in the first inning. The Royals were down 2-0 and they looked destined to lose another on this dreadful road trip.
A leadoff walk from Michael Massey in the 5th set the table for Jac Caglianone to wallop a 2-run homer to tie the game up. It was the 6th homer for Cags on the season.
The 6th inning was the big one for the Royals, the first four batters of the inning hit for the cycle. Bobby Witt Jr. lead off the inning with his 6th triple on the season. Vinnie Pasquantino doubled him in, Maikel Garcia singled to make it first and third with nobody out, and Salvador Perez would blast a 3-run homer into the left field seats. 6-2 Royals, career home run number 301 for the Captain.
The Royals would load the bases in the 7th with two outs, and Perez came through again, driving two more runs in with a single.
Outside of the two solo homers allowed in the first inning, Noah Cameron was fantastic. He went 7 innings, allowed four hits, two runs, walked one and struck out seven. Cameron’s ERA for the season is 2.98. John
Schreiber pitched the 8th, and allowed a solo homer, but retired the other three batters he faced.
Bobby Witt Jr. would lead off the 9th inning with his 22nd home run on the season, over the right center field fence. Tyler Tolbert would hit a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it a 10-3 ballgame.
Carlos Estevez walked a batter and recorded two outs before exiting with an injury. Luinder Avila came in to finish the game, he retired the only batter he faced. The Royals finish the road trip 2-5 and are 75-75 on the season. They are off tomorrow but have their last homestand with 6 games against the Mariners and Blue Jays next week.
